Australia's solar mix: rooftop solar power

Rooftop solar refers to solar photovoltaic (PV) systems installed on the rooftops of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Australia has one of the highest rates of rooftop solar adoption in the world.

Rooftop solar systems vary in size, typically ranging from a few kilowatts (kW) for residential homes to several megawatts (MW) for large commercial buildings.

Most rooftop solar systems are connected to the electricity grid. Surplus electricity generated during the day can be fed back into the grid. To date, this has usually been for a financial return through feed-in tariffs however this is changing, as market operators seek to moderate growing feed-in rates.
